What is New Teachers Retreat?
The summer is a crucial time for teachers to decompress and reflect on the previous year, and also to plan for the next one. We are lucky in our line of work to get a “clean slate” each school year, and this yearly event seeks to equip its participants with the relationships, support, and skills needed to take on the new school year with confidence. Here is a list of instructional sessions and themes from past retreats:
This summer professional development opportunity offers a chance to leave regular daily life behind to debrief the previous school year and rejuvenate for the coming one. Through daily instructional sessions interspersed with personal and collective planning/collaboration time, as well as opportunities for rest, recreation, and reflection, the New Teachers Retreat is not an intensive training experience but it’s also not (just) a day at the beach. It is a time to learn from somewhat more experienced teachers in the form of guided discussion and exercises. It’s also a time for open and honest conversation about the challenges you have faced and will face. And it’s a time to go bowling, to go for a hike, a swim, or to see a movie, and to enjoy meals together too. See when for the schedule.
