Who is this for?
This is a professional development opportunity specifically designed for new teachers. We are trying to reach those who’ve completed at least 1 year of full-time professional teaching but haven’t been in the profession for more than 3-5 years.
What’s the rationale? We noticed that there are a lot of professional development opportunities out there for rock-star experienced teachers. But if your head’s still spinning from your first year and you’re wondering, ‘am I any good at this’ and ‘can I do it long-term’, then you might need something different.
We love that so many development opportunities exist for teachers but thought, why isn’t there one that explicitly seeks out new teachers as they are? A professional development that targets their unique concerns and needs? New teachers often land in the toughest student populations and districts and can benefit most from professional development, community, and mentorship.
The New Teachers Retreat is an organization dedicated to the development and retention of young talent in the teaching profession in community with other teachers. The organization runs an annual retreat each summer as an opportunity for teachers in their first 5 years to gain perspective, knowledge, and skills in order to improve their practice with a positive impact for their students in the coming school year.
Our Leadership Team
We are also actively recruiting a number of leaders who will lead sessions and provide mentor-ship over the weekend. These individuals have a variety of backgrounds including elementary education as well as other subjects including math, science, and social studies.
